La repasseuse à contre-jour conservée au Metropolitan Museum of Art à New York est la première version d’une série de trois. Dans une atmosphère un peu tragique\, une silhouette à l’ouvrage se détache sur la blancheur des linges. Ce dessin est une étude\, mise au carreau pour être reportée\, de la même dimension que dans la peinture. Cette dernière conserve d’ailleurs des traces de carreaux correspondants à ceux de cette étude.
